First day of NYCC and all I got was this lousy recap. It was a long day as I got there by 2 and it didn't end til 9. I finished setting my COMIC NEWS INSIDER table up in the Podcast Arena in Artist Alley at my Table AA3 and then rushed around the main floor to gather prizes for the annual fundraising raffle and say hi to friends. Everyone was still madly finishing set ups but the excitement was in the air! I had a volunteer cancel due to sickness so I hung at my table for a bit and walked around Artist Alley. Lots of cool stuff going on there! Met some great cartoonists and possibly set up some interviews. I DID do one interview with some old pals George and Shawn whom are in the comics game as they've started doing soundtracks for digital comics. Pretty cool stuff.
Another CNI staff member showed up around 5:30, so I decided to go walk the main floor. Took me about 1 1/2-2 hours to do it and boy was it a clusterfuck. Lots of cool and weird things all over but people seemed happy. Chatted with various pals at different booths and wondered why some not even close to being anything nerdy companies had a booth and why there was a place where you could get a manicure. Oh Comic Con!
I saw a ton of great cosplayers and this was one of my favorites. G-FORCE aka GATCHMAN aka BATTLE OF THE PLANETS!
Back to the Podcast Arena in Artist Alley. Not sure why they didn't put up the Podcast Arena sign this year as it's made it difficult for some to find us. I love the Artist Alley "hangar" as it's spread out and more maneuverable. However, I worry how our raffle will do this weekend. Fingers and other extremities crossed! Thanks for Producer Joe for working the booth as well as CNI staff Malcolm and Emily. Mad love to one of my new favorite people in the world, Michelle, for buying me an awesome Batman winter hat. I loves it so!
Post-con, I headed over to the big CBLDF/THE BEAT/DYNAMITE party at Smithfield's and boy was in kicking! So many cartoonist pals in attendance and got to hang with a ton of them. Lots of bourbon was consumed and it was time to head home for at least 5-6 hours of sleep.
Come on by this weekend for the raffle (see times in next post) and signings! Table AA3 IN ARTIST ALLEY!
